Dumpling fans, it's time to start doing your stretches and making your eating plans, because the first-ever Canadian location of global restaurant giant Din Tai Fung has set its 鶹ýӳlocation's soft and grand opening dates.
Din Tai Fung has been setting up shop in Downtown 鶹ýӳsince 2023 and has been one of the city's most-awaited restaurant openings since.
Now we know that Din Tai Fung 鶹ýӳwill welcome guests during its soft-opening phase from April 24 to May 4, with a grand opening set for May 5.
According to an email sent to newsletter subscribers, during the soft opening phase, DTF's inaugural 鶹ýӳguests can expect the following: "Preview our newest location and enjoy a selection of DTF favorites off of our limited pre-opening menu, like our signature Xiao Long Bao, Sesame Noodles, and speciality beverages, inspired by our Taiwanese heritage."
. Diners should note there will be no walk-ins accepted during soft opening.
The new, massive restaurant fills more than 16,400 square feet on the second floor of 1132 Alberni St.
Known for its (soup dumplings), Din Tai Fung first opened in 1958 as a in Taiwan.
In 1972 it pivoted to a "humble dumpling and noodle shop," according to a press release. More than 50 years later, it now has around 170 locations in 13 countries (Canada will be the 14th). Four of its locations have received the from the Michelin Guide.
The huge space will seat more than 300 people (including an 88-person patio); expectations are for Din Tai Fung Vancouver to employ about 300 people as well.
The new restaurant's interior is inspired by Chinese Zen gardens. Features include a rock garden, floor lanterns, and a meandering "garden path."
The XLB that Din Tai Fung is known for will be made in full view of customers; a dumpling-making station is being built near the bar.
