Every once in a while, it's nice to have a change of scenery.

Every time I drive by the gun store on Fraser Street off Kingsway I marvel at how much of an anomaly it is in this neighbourhood that's home to Les Faux Bourgeois, Matchstick Coffee and Sal Y Limon. In fact they're all about a block away.

In recent years, Whyte Lake has become a popular year-round hiking spot for locals. It's a wonderful destination for a wet-weather or shoulder-season day, especially when you don't have the time or inclination do something higher or farther.

After last year's warm winter, ski season is back in full effect at Mount Seymour in North Vancouver.
