Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police say a semi-truck driver who was caught excessively speeding was "surprised" when their vehicle was impounded.
The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department's (VPD) Traffic Section tweeted an image of a semi-truck with 53' trailer attached that they had pulled over for speeding in the city.
A ticket for excessive speeding comes with a fine of up to $483, depending on how much above the limit the driver was going. Additionally, police can if the driver was travelling upwards of 40 km per hour above the limit, according to ICBC.
Repeat offenders may have their vehicles impounded for 30 or 60 days. Drivers must also pay the vehicle towing and storage fees to get their vehicles back.
According to provincial data, distracted driving is responsible for more than 25 per cent of all car crash fatalities and is the second leading cause of fatal collisions in B.C. Every year, an average of 76 people die in fatal motor vehicle collisions in BC because the driver was distracted or not paying attention.
Distracted driving is more than electronic devices being used; other reasons for the citation include personal grooming, eating/drinking, reading, pets, other passengers, and not knowing your route.
