Two drivers were clocked speeding over double the posted limit in Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»over the weekend.

On Sunday (Sept. 25), Langley RCMP recorded two cars travelling 156 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in the 7600 block of 200th Street, explains a news release.

Both of the drivers held Class 7 (New Driver) licenses and both of their vehicles were impounded for seven days.

Each driver was slapped with a $483 violation ticket for excessive speeding. Further, each of them will be responsible for the cost of towing and storage for the duration of the impound, say police.

Both drivers also face the very real possibility of a driving prohibition.

An "abundance of evidence" shows speeding directly relates to a significant percentage of traffic fatalities in Canada.

"This is further aggravated by the increased stopping distance, driver reaction time and the reality of the [potentially] devastating impact with higher speed collisions," say police.

Langley RCMP Traffic Services underscores that "high-risk driving behaviour will not be tolerated" in the city streets and highways.

"Our enforcement efforts will continue to target this conduct in our community."

Anyone witnessing high-risk driving behaviour is asked to contact Langley RCMP.
