Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police say a truck driver was speeding dangerously above the limit this week.
The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department Traffic Section shared an image on Twitter of a semi-trailer pulled over on the side of the road with a police radar gun.
"This truck, pulling a 35 [foot] trailer, was travelling 75 km/h in a 50 zone," explains the tweet posted Friday (July 15).
"A car [travelling] the same speed needs a minimum of 34 meters to stop or the length of half a hockey rink. Can you imagine the distance this truck would need?"
The VPD also hashtagged #NoNeedForSpeed to reinforce the message.
The VPD Traffic Section recently shared an image of a car being towed after a busy weekend for officers ticketing reckless drivers.
"Unfortunately, it was another busy weekend for our officers and volunteers. To all those people whose weekend plans included a safe way home - we appreciate you!"
The Traffic Section also wrote in a tweet that it caught a whopping 35 impaired drivers over the Canada Day long weekend.
In June, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police said an impaired driver crashed his vehicle into a lamp pole in the downtown area, injuring two passengers.
In a tweet, the VPD remarked: "Imagine if he had killed them? Drinking and driving never ends well - make a different choice."
