Just in time for the holiday long weekend, Tacofino will open the doors to its newest Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»location.
Tacofino White Rock will start slinging margs and tacos at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at 1405 Johnston Rd. The restaurant is situated in the new Miramar Village development, and will feature 20 indoor seats and a patio with 16 seats.
What to expect at Tacofino in White Rock
The new Tacofino will be a neighbour to Vietnamese spot Banh Mi Tres Bon, which opened last summer. The development is having a busy week, as the Thrifty Foods grocery store in the complex will have its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony the day before, on May 16.
“Since we started this project, we’ve been blown away by the warmth we’ve felt from everyone we’ve met,” said Tacofino Managing Partner Gino Di Domenico of the restaurant's expansion to White Rock. “Local businesses, the BIA, and City Council have all taken [the] time to welcome us and we’re looking forward to being part of this very special community.”
The decor for the White Rock Tacofino draws inspiration from the coastal community's history as being a popular waypoint on the road between the U.S. and Canada, before the highway. Diners will see some "flower power" elements reminiscent of the psychedelic art of the seventies in the restaurant.
On the menu: Tacofino classics like the restaurant's fish tacos and crispy chicken burritos as well as new creations like "Soft & Crunchies and melty Gringas." The restaurant will also have local beers and cocktails, including Tacofino's beloved margaritas, at the new White Rock outpost.
Tacofino: Major B.C. expansion with one key Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»closure
What began as a modest operation out of B.C.'s favourite surf town, Tofino, remains a growing powerhouse in the province when it comes to casual Mexican fare. Tacofino has continued to add restaurant locations in the lower mainland and on Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island. Its most recent additions to the roster include Metrotown in Burnaby, Squamish, and Langford.
Tacofino has a Victoria location, a seasonal pop-up on a Victoria golf course, and their original Tofino truck.
Additionally, Tacofino currently operates six restaurants in Vancouver: Gastown, East Vancouver, Yaletown, Mount Pleasant, Kitsilano, and Downtown. However, the Gastown "Burrito Bar" location is enjoying its last months; in March, the Mexican-style chain revealed it would close the Gastown restaurant permanently on August 18, 2024.
Bonus: The first 500 customers at Tacofino's new White Rock location each day on Saturday, May 18, Sunday, May 19, and Monday, May 20 will receive a free taco gift card (with purchase) that can be used from June 1 to July 31.
