It's been a long few weeks for the team behind , a Michelin Guide Recommended Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»restaurant that was forced to close in early September in the aftermath of a fire on their Chinatown property.
Torafuku, which learned Thursday (Oct. 5) that it had maintained its Michelin-recommended status during the publication's awards ceremony, doubled down on post-event celebration by announcing the restaurant has a re-opening day set.
"After a rather stressful month and many sleepless nights, we are finally reopening our door next Wednesday, Oct 11!!" declared Torafuku on its social media on Saturday, Oct. 7.
With the re-opening comes a belated chance to mark the Pan-Asian restaurant's eighth anniversary, and, says the team, they'll soon have "some exciting news" to share.
On Sept. 7, a fire was intentionally set at the back of Torafuku's restaurant at 958 Main St, the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Asst. Chief Keith Stewart told V.I.A.
The flames, which were set at 4 p.m., went up the wall and caused some damage to the building, but didn't make it inside the restaurant. "All the occupants were safe and everyone got out," Stewart said. Torafuku owner Steve Kuan was able to visit the site the following day, noting the space was filled with water.
Torafuku was due to celebrate its eight-year anniversary the following week.
The restaurant opened its Main Street location in 2015 and has become one of the city's most successful food truck to brick-and-mortar transitions, morphing from Le Tigre food truck to a modern sit-down spot.
In 2022, Torafuku was among the first Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»restaurants to earn a Michelin Guide distinction, landing on the "Recommended" list.
Despite the setback from the fire, the festivities and food will go on for Torafuku.
"Have a lovely Thanksgiving everyone! We are grateful to have all of your support. THANK YOU!" added the Torafuku team.
