After just a few weeks as the new tenants at 1864 W 4th Ave in Kitsilano, is already ready to open the doors to its eighth bakery-café location.
The doors will open at the newest Purebread outpost on Saturday, June 1.
The shop's display case will be loaded with Purebread's array of sweet and savoury treats, like potato and cheese-filled hand pies, buckwheat sour cherry scones, and cakes, as well the bakery's signature lineup of artisanal bread.
The cafe, with its impressive selection of cookies, loaves, and treats, will also have sandwiches and coffee and tea drinks for those stopping by the shop for lunch or a snack. Seating is available for dining in, and take-out is always available.
It's the second Purebread location in Vancouver's Kitsilano.
The 'community bakery' brand continues to expand in the region
Purebread opened at 2887 W Broadway in October 2018, however, in a 2023 phone interview, Andrew Barnes, the CEO of Purebread's parent company, told V.I.A. that while "Broadway and 4th are relatively close," the neighbourhoods have a "totally different clientele."
"We want to be seen as B.C. - and Canada's - community bakery" that offers "warm and welcoming" locations, Barnes added.
The Whistler-born brand was acquired by Coho Commissary, the Vancouver-based shared commercial kitchen operator, in 2022. In November 2023, Purebread shared its plan to move into the West 4th Avenue space (as well as to add a UBC location) as part of its gradual growth strategy.
Those familiar with the West 4th Avenue address likely know the retail space was the home of The Pie Hole until as recently as March 13 (Pi Day) when the shop ceased operations at the location. The Pie Hole has since relocated in Kits to 2959 W Broadway.
A rep for Purebread tells V.I.A. during a pre-opening visit to the new Kitsilano cafe that the team was lucky to have come into that space as they only needed to make a few updates to the space to get the doors open.
In addition to the West Broadway Purebread, the bakery has two cafe locations in Whistler, its original Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»store in Gastown, and its Mount Pleasant bakeshop and production kitchen on 5th at Ontario. Before selling the business to Coho, the original owners also added Purebread locations in Squamish and at YVR Airport in Richmond.
Purebread's West 4th Avenue bakery-café will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
