Vancouver's newest pro sports team launches this spring, and it's starting big.
The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Rise of the Northern Super League (NSL) is set to play 25 games this season with 12 home games. While the majority of those games will be played at Burnaby's Swangard Stadium, the new team will launch the league under one of the biggest roofs in Canada.
.
"Kicking off the NSL in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»feels especially meaningful, given the city’s passion for soccer and the key role our ownership played in bringing the league to life. We’re thrilled to host the first game at BC Place, surrounded by dedicated fans," says team president Sinead King in a press release.
The Rise will take on the Calgary Wild in the league's first-ever game on April 16, 2025.
"The first-ever NSL match sets the stage in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on April 16, where Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»takes on Calgary at BC Place in front of what is sure to be a massive, history-making crowd," reads a press release from the league.
The team features players like Quinn and Samantha Chang, who've recently played for Canada's women's national soccer team, along with several Canadians who've spent years playing in professional European leagues, like Lisa Pechersky, Shannon Woeller (who's from Vancouver), and Kayla Gonçalves.
There are also hometown players like Kirstin Tynan and Holly Ward (who played for the national U20 team in 2022).
The Rise is co-owned by Canadian soccer legend Christine Sinclair, who holds the record for most goals in international soccer.
