Returning for a third year, the will take over a section of East Hastings Street and beyond for an afternoon of food, fun, and entertainment on Saturday, June 22 from noon to 5 p.m.
As part of the event, organizers are offering an interactive "passport" to encourage people to visit local shops around the area.
Featuring businesses from the 600 to 900 blocks of East Hastings Street, the passport is designed to encourage event attendees to visit participating locations to collect a sticker or stamp during the block - or blocks - party.
This free family-friendly event is perfect for both the big ones and the small ones. After the kids have their faces painted, the adults can head to the beer garden at 895 E Hastings St to unwind. Then, everyone can enjoy a community BBQ offered by Eden Cafe.
There will be several food trucks onsite, including Shameless Buns, Ay! Mamacita, Mama’s Fish & Chips , Good Dogs Plant Foods, and Nami.
For those who are interested in live music, the Blocks Party will feature the following bands
- Noon-1:45 p.m.: Marlin Ramazzini Band
- 2:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.: Local Motion Band
- 3:45 p.m. 4:30 p.m.: Sutursonic Band
- 4:30 p.m. 5 p.m.: Terminal City Bass Band
Other interactive elements of the community celebration will include live art installations, a skateboard ramp (on Campbell Avenue), and outdoor games (840 E Hastings St). The Strathcona Market, curated by Made in the 604, will feature local artisans and vendors, while MakerLabs (780 E Cordova) will offer free tours, maker activities, and an open studio for visitors to experience.
Even Vancouver's beloved Canucks mascot, Fin the Orca, will be part of the festivities.
