Jane's Walks are returning to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»this spring for those interested in urban life and how people interact with cities.
Done in memory of civic activist and author Jane Jacobs, the Jane's Walk Festival is a global affair with local events in more than 200 cities.
The walks are a way for people to learn and gain perspective on city life.
"Jane’s Walks are based on Jacobs’ idea that 'cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody,'" explain organizers of Jane's Walk Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»in a press release.
The walks take place May 1 to 4, 2025, and are free, citizen-led tours of specific areas.
In Vancouver, the walks feature collaborations between architects and planners, community gardeners and schools, artists and locals.
This year, across Metro Vancouver. Topics include:
- Drawing to Understand the City (with the Sneaky Artist)
- Hogan's Alley: A Walk to Reclaim Space
- Lost Lines of Commercial Drive: The Interurban
- Mansion-Only Zoning and the Future of Shaughnessy
- The Jane's (Poetry) Walk in the West End
All talks and walks are free, but some require registration in advance of the event on the . Others are open to anyone who shows up.
