Stepping into August means Richmond's most fragrant agricultural celebration is nigh.
On Aug. 17, the annual Richmond Garlic Fest returns to the Sharing Farm to highlight sustainable agriculture — especially locally grown garlic.
An annual festival that draws about 5,000 attendees from all over the Lower Mainland, the Garlic Fest promises "hundreds of pounds" of locally grown garlic varieties, delicious treats such as garlic ice cream and a farmers market highlighting local products.
Attendees can also enjoy the popular raptor demonstrations, workshops such as garlic growing and garlic braiding talks, live music, farm tours and family-friendly activities.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to arrive by transit, foot or bike. A bike valet service is available in a secure area near the festival entrance and those driving can park at the City Works Yard at 5599 Lynas Lane, where there will be free regular shuttles to the festival.
There is no parking at Spul'u'Kwuks Elementary School this year and accessible parking for those with blue parking permits is available at 2771 Westminster Hwy.
The 2024 Richmond Garlic Fest will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sharing Farm at 2771 Westminster Hwy.
Entry is by donation with a suggested minimum of $5 per person. All proceeds will support the Sharing Farm in cultivating sustainably grown produce to combat food insecurity in the community.
