Workers at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»locations of retail chains Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers Drug Mart have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Loblaw Companies Ltd, the parent company of retailers Shoppers Drug Mart and Real Canadian Superstore provided updates to its  on Nov. 25.

The following stores are newly affected:

  • Real Canadian Superstore, 350 SE Marine Drive, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on November 15.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart, 1125 Davie Street, Vancouver: The last day the team member worked was on November 20.

Neither of these store locations is considered a public exposure site by governing health authority Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Coastal Health.

Why does Loblaw report staff coronavirus cases?

Loblaw says they share updates about test-positive COVID cases in their stores in order to maintain transparency.

"In these cases, we work closely with public health and follow their guidance to ensure proper notification of close contacts and required cleaning and sanitization in our stores," notes the company.

When there are employee virus cases, Loblaw notes: “Generally, the risk to our customers remains low, due to the physical distancing and sanitization measures that have been in place in our stores for months."

The company also owns B.C.-based brand T & T Supermarket, which offers store associate test-positive case updates on its website.

In British Columbia, only one of the other major national grocery retailers operating here, Sobeys Inc., maintains a public web portal for sharing test-positive case information. Sobeys operates Safeway, FreshCo, and Thrifty stores in the province.
