MEXICO CITY (AP) — Gilma strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane Wednesday afternoon in the eastern Pacific Ocean and was forecast to become a major hurricane as soon as Thursday.

A study out of the University of British Columbia recently found migrant workers in the B.C. Okanagan living in extreme heat conditions beyond what the Western Agricultural Labour Initiative guidelines allow.

Extreme temperatures seen in 2023 were equivalent to some climate projections for 2050, says the study.

The Calcite Creek fire in British Columbia's southern Interior is no longer considered a "wildfire of note," leaving three such blazes throughout the province.

Various organizations have come together to create the Seniors Climate Action Day initiative on Oct. 1.

Observations from a helicopter show the river flow is "evening out," and murky conditions are getting better, though the flow is still much higher than normal.

For the next two days, more thunder and lightning are possible for Metro Vancouver.

"Mariners are urged to take all necessary precautions and prepare for the possibility of waterspout activity"

A section of the park remains closed as further work is needed.

Ernesto picked up strength as a hurricane early Monday as it headed farther out in the Atlantic toward easternmost Canada, but the storm is expected to stay offshore, causing powerful swells, dangerous surf and rip currents along the U.S.
