Two South Coquitlam homes facing wrecking ball for a multiplex

Tonight, Sept. 11, city council is expected to give first reading to a rezoning bid from Flat Architecture Inc.

A six-unit multiplex is planned for an older Coquitlam neighbourhood that’s seeing a lot of change.

Tonight, Sept. 11, city council is expected to give first reading to a rezoning bid from Flat Architecture Inc., which plans to consolidate 963 and 973 Edgar Ave., east of Blue Mountain Street, for two buildings.

According to a city staff report, the six three-bedroom homes will range in size from 2,182 to 2,317 sq. ft. each.

The two existing homes will be razed for the proposed development, wrote Chris McBeath, Coquitlam’s acting director of development services, and if OK’d following a public hearing will generate for the city:

  • $159,000 in development cost charges
  • $60,000 in community amenity contributions
  • $10,000 for the child care reserve fund

The site is near two development applications: A fourplex at 975 Edgar Ave. is in early planning stages while two triplex buildings at 968 Edgar Ave. are in staff review for a development permit and subdivision.

The owner of 963 and 973 Edgar Ave. is Rockport Holdings Ltd.
