Nicholson Road is part of an ongoing photo project aimed at sharing and celebrating the different communities in Metro Vancouver. Each week Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» will be featuring one of the latest, most engaging photos from the project in order to draw your attention a little bit outside of the hyper-focus that we usually have on the city of Vancouver. |
So you know the Firehall Arts Centre off Cordova and Gore, right? Did you know Surrey has its own repurposed firehall arts centre?
The Newton Cultural Centre opened last October, after a $1.5 million retrofit of the recently decommissioned Fire Hall #10 on 72nd Avenue near King George Boulevard. This came about thanks to the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Strategic Plan, which acknowledged that Surrey's growing communities would greatly benefit from local arts services to augment the Surrey Arts Centre located in Bear Creek Park. This new Centre, operated by the Arts Council of Surrey, provides gallery space, meeting/conference rooms, and an intimate, 100-person rehearsal/performance space.
