Welcome to , a unique project inspired by and . I've moved my family into this community with my mission being to showcase the myriad of things that make it awesome by bringing you a weekly scoop! |
This past Friday our friends at put on a big shindig in the Salt Building which up until now has been rented out for events as a venue. As I recently about, its intended use has always been to house a brewpub and was recently locked down by CRAFT Beer who are going to be leasing it out in the long term to open a restaurant and taphouse with 140 beers and an eclectic menu. I could be wrong but I think that this Tides party was the last big hurrah that the Salt Building will be hosting before CRAFT gets the keys!

The party was loads of fun with much great food and drink, an inspiring speech as well as a photobooth geared around Tides' messaging where they're aiming to get unlikely partners to work together for the betterment of our future, or "Uncommon solutions for the common good".
As I was walking in to the party (literally right next door to our place, it took me 30 seconds to get there) I ran into my friend Joel Solomon who is the Vice-Chair of Tides Canada, as well as the chair of the Hollyhock Foundation which I a little over a year ago. Joel is an agent of change who is constantly inspiring folks (like myself) who are running businesses that work towards positive social and environmental change and not simply a single bottom line geared towards profit. The dude is a change-maker of the first order and in case you missed it I introduced you to him over coffee a few months ago . Here's what he had to say about the party:
And here's what he had to say recently to my friend Aaron Vidas (whom I met through Hollyhock!) who is a local social enterprise strategist. Aaron interviewed Joel for his and got some wise words out of him.

This bash at the Salt Building was the perfect ender for the space as a sort of blank slate venue and I'm really looking forward for the new tenants to move in. Word is that we'll be enjoying by this summer.
