Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police are asking people to come forward with dashcam video footage to help in the investigation of an attempted child abduction earlier this week.
At about 3:20 p.m. on Jan. 7, a 12-year-old girl was walking home from school in the area of East 50th Avenue and Fraser Street when she was approached by a red minivan.
Police said the driver got out of the van and asked the girl if she wanted to come with him. She said no and ran back to her school where she alerted school administration.
The next day, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»police released photos of a red minivan with tinted windows and a red work ladder attached to the roof, which is believed to have been in the area around the time of the attempted abduction.
Investigators believe the suspect’s vehicle is a Dodge Caravan or Dodge Grand Caravan with a model year of between 2001 and 2007.
“Investigators from our Special Investigations Section are working to identify the vehicle involved and are now looking for dashcam footage from anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the attempted abduction,” Const. Tania Visintin, VPD media relations officer, said Friday.
Investigators are looking for any dashcam video from anyone who may have been in the area of St.Georges Street to Prince Albert Street and between 49th and 51st avenues between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Anyone who has information about this incident, or who passed through the area and has dashcam footage, is asked to contact investigators at 604-717-0603 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
