Police have arrested a man after he was seen threatening people with a large stick earlier this month, but are looking for one of the people he threatened.
The incident, which occurred the night of Nov. 1, was caught on video and shared on social media. In the video the suspect, a 26-year-old man, can be seen at the intersection of Burrard and Drake streets with a large stick.
As a person carrying shopping bags approaches the man turns to them, points the stick at them and then begins to chase them. The person is able to run away.
A short time later the man approaches a person with their back turned to him and brandishes the stick, but the person walks away without ever seeing the man, it appears, and the man walks away, eventually getting on a bus.
"This frightening incident was caught on tape, but the victim did not report the encounter to Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police,” says Const. Tania Visintin in a press release. “We’d like to hear from this person, or anyone else who has information, so we can better understand what happened.”
Police were able to identify the suspect in it when they responded to a disturbance at a social housing complex at Cambia and Dunsmuir streets. When approached by officers the man claimed to have a gun and tried to run. He didn't get far and they arrested him.
The man, a West End resident, was already wanted province-wide for a different crime.
While police are looking to speak to the person threatened in the video, they're also looking to talk to anyone else who has information about the incident on Nov. 1. The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department can be reached at 604-717-4021.
