The Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Police Department (VPD) says they have identified a suspect in an assault on a sex worker in the Downtown Eastside, but continue to urge the public to remain vigilant.
On Thursday (June 13), police issued a warning to women in the Downtown Eastside in the wake of the reported assault, which occurred just after midnight on Monday, June 10, according to a police press release.
The victim was picked up near East Hastings Street and Campbell Avenue by a man driving an older-model dark-coloured sedan, according to the VPD.
Once the woman was inside the car, the male suspect attacked her with a weapon, states the VPD, before pushing her out of the car near Oppenheimer Park.
People nearby aided the woman and called the police; she's recovering from her injuries now, noted the VPD.
Officers located a suspect Thursday evening while conducting patrols near Oppenheimer Park, the VPD indicated on Friday.
The VPD says it has seized the suspect's vehicle and the investigation remains ongoing.
However, as no charges have been laid, the suspect's identity cannot be shared.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the VPD at 604-717-0601.
