Video: Firefighters tackle 'three significant fires' in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»overnight

Each fire caused significant damage.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»firefighters had a busy night yesterday (May 3).

Three significant fires took place around the city, two in South Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»and one in East Vancouver.

One blaze was a brush fire that impinged onto the back area of a building containing cars in the 1400 block of South West Marine Drive in the Marpole area.

Public Information Officer for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Matthew Trudeau tells V.I.A. that firefighters received a call about the fire at 8:51 p.m. last night (May 3).

A witness tells V.I.A. that the flames "went from the parking lot of the auto dealerships on South West Marine Drive down to the walking path below."

Two cars caught on fire and a total of four cars were damaged.

While the cause of the fire is under investigation, the flames torched through around 2,400 sq ft of vegetation.

"There was some extension and concern that it was going to spread into some sheds and some small buildings," notes Trudeau. "Crews were able to put the fire out before it spread into other structures."

The second South Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»fire broke out around 1 a.m. Thursday (May 4) morning in a detached home at 6177 Collingwood Pl.

The two-alarm fire was fully involved when crews and 14 apparatus arrived.

"The structure mostly collapsed on itself," says Trudeau. "There's not too much left."

No injuries were reported and VFRS does not believe anyone was occupying the home last night.

The third blaze was a fully involved first-alarm kitchen fire in a suite at 3075 Nanaimo St.

Two people were injured and one person displaced.
