A three alarm fire set a house ablaze in Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood early on Jan. 25, 2023.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»firefighters responded to an early morning blaze in the Strathcona neighbourhood.

A three alarm fire sparked in a house at 743 Keefer St at 4:29 a.m Wednesday (Jan. 25).

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Assistant Chief Dan Nichols tells V.I.A. that the home was under construction at the time of the fire and that the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

A VFRS news release later in the afternoon says that firefighters "were met with heavy smoke and flames" upon arriving. The blaze escalated to a three alarm fire and 44 firefighters and 12 apparatus attended to the scene.

No injuries were reported due to the neighbours' quick calls to 911, working smoke alarms, and "fast actions from adjacent residents evacuating," says VFRS. However, 10 people were displaced from two neighbouring properties.

"When these residents realized that a fire was occurring against their home, they gathered their family and escaped unharmed," says VFRS Captain Matthew Trudeau.

Firefighters were also able to help rescue a cat from one of the homes.
