Firefighters had to douse overnight fires and heavy smoke at two Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»homes on Jan. 16 and 17, 2023.

Two homes caught fire in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»overnight.

Firefighters received a call at 9:18 p.m. Monday night (Jan. 16) for a fire at a three-storey house at 2118 W 22nd Ave.

"A major electrical appliance [was] on fire," Assistant Chief Jarret Gray tells V.I.A. "There was heavy smoke which was contained to the origin of the object."

A second fire broke out this morning (Jan. 17) at 9:24 a.m. in a Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»home at 5525 Elizabeth St.

Though the cause of the fire is unknown, says Gray, the flames were contained to the bathroom area. "[There was] charring around the bathroom fan," he says, adding that smoke filled the bathroom and the attic.

No injuries were reported in both fires.

"A reminder that smoke alarms save lives," shared Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services on social media following the incidents.
