Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services put out five fires in less than 24 hours, three of which were in SRO buildings.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»firefighters were busy over the past day.

Five fires broke out around Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»within 24 hours. Firefighters received a call about the first fire at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 15) afternoon and rushed to their latest fire around 11 a.m. this morning (Dec. 16), Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Asst. Chief Brian Bertuzzi told Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³».

The first two fires took place Thursday at different SRO buildings but both in a suite on the third floor. The afternoon fire at 4:30 p.m. occurred at Regal Place Hotel and the second fire broke out at 8:20 p.m. at Ramada Hotel on Pender Street in downtown Vancouver.

A third fire set ablaze a large garbage recycling yard at 1 a.m. at 8501 Ontario Street in South Vancouver.

Later this morning, firefighters received a call shortly after 5 a.m. about another SRO fire at the Grand Union Hotel. The flames were on the main floor at the backside of the building, explained Bertuzzi.

All three fires that happened at different SRO buildings were contained and their causes are under investigation, said Bertuzzi, adding that there were no injuries in them.

The latest fire took place this morning around 11 a.m. in a small house near 49th Avenue and Knight Street.
