Easy come. Easier go. North 鶹ýӳRCMP say they arrested a man within 60 seconds of him allegedly robbing a Capilano Road gas station.

According to police, a suspect walked into the station around 4 a.m. Monday and threatened to harm the clerk unless he handed over cigarettes and cash from the register. The clerk complied and was uninjured, investigators say. The victim quickly called 911.

But, the suspect didn't even have time to smoke one of his ill-gotten darts.

A North 鶹ýӳRCMP officer was on patrol in the neighbourhood when the dispatch went out and was on the scene in less than a minute.

“Our officer literally observed the (suspect) attempting to cross the road on a walk signal after waiting for the signal to change,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North 鶹ýӳRCMP spokesman. “Making our regular nighttime patrols proved unfortunate for the (suspect) but the victim appreciated our immediate response.”

On Monday, the Crown swore one charge of robbery against Lloyd Jason Lewis, 38. Lewis has since been released on bail and is due back in court on Feb. 14.
