A locally-loved amphitheatre caught fire last night.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»firefighters responded to a blaze at the Kitsilano Showboat at 12:08 a.m. on Saturday, April 22.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) Asst. Chief Keith Stewart tells V.I.A. that the venue and stage were fully involved in the fire when crews arrived, but firefighters were able to put the flames out quickly.
A total of 24 firefighters responded to the fire.
The Kitsilano Showboat suffered a lot of water and fire damage, notes Stewart.
Nobody was at the scene when crews arrived and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Locals are dismayed at the news. "Weight of sadness," shares Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Park Board Commissioner Tom Digby alongside a photo of the fire aftermath on Twitter.
"That's really too bad," replied City Councillor Pete Fry. "Hopefully [it] can be repaired enough to support iconic summer events."
Other Vancouverites chimed in under the tweet hoping that the outdoor theatre can make a quick recovery.
