Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»region as temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-20s this week.
On Saturday (May 13), the national weather forecaster said that "unseasonably hot weather" will continue across the province starting this weekend, with peak daytime high temperatures expected on Sunday and Monday.
Locals can expect daily high temperatures around 10 C to 15 C above seasonal values, ranging between 24 C and 26 C near the water and 31 C and 34 C inland. Overnight lows will also be five to 10 degrees above normal May temperatures, according to the weather alert.
Increased snowpack melting may result in possible local flooding, which could also lead to a mosquito boom this summer.
The City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»might also open splash parks a week early in preparation for the hot spell.
While the heat may break daily temperature records, the warm weather won't approach levels reached during the heat dome in late June, 2021.
