Two local Olympian athletes and sports legends are being recognized today (July 15).
Doug and Diane Clement were instrumental in Vancouver's sports scene.
Both were Olympian sprinters and represented Canada in the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics as well as the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. They later co-founded the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Sun Run in 1985 and played a part in bringing the 2010 Winter Olympics to Vancouver.
Doug also founded the Achilles International Track and Field Society in 1964, which hosts the "Harry Jerome Classic," and Diane served as the first female President of Athletics Canada.
Both are inductees in the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame and recipients of the Order of Canada.
In honour of the Clement's legacy, July 15 has been proclaimed as Doug and Diane Clement Day in Vancouver, which also falls on Doug's 90th birthday.
"Thank you Doug and Diane for everything you've done for our city and country," shared Mayor Ken Sim on Twitter.
