We have a place to live already, but sometimes we just like to check what’s out there. Like, wayyyy out there. A recent wander of Craigslist took us to Agassiz in the Fraser Valley, where we envisioned pastoral evenings spent on the porch under the stars, next to our (newly purchased) kerosene lamp and (not newly purchased) book collection.
You’ll have to ditch the books though, if you want to bunk up with .
The misspelling of “Agasiz” in the headline should have been our first warning, but when we saw “1br - FREE RENT IN EXCHANGE FOR HOUSLEHOLD AND OTHER DUTIES” we were intrigued.
What might one have to do in exchange for this “free rent” situation? We’ll happily do our share of the cooking and cleaning, but we definitely draw the line at:
ORGANIZING
SECURITY
SHARE ONE BEDROOM
PIC REQUIRED
NO ROOM FOR FURNITURE
JUST PERSONAL EFFECTS (we count books as furniture)
The post continues to entice:
FREE LAUNDRY
FREE FOOD
FREE CLOTHING
Yet, inexplicably, the word free ceases to be effective when placed next to a stranger’s offer to clothe us? (Why?? Whose clothing??)
But the deal breaker has to be this selling point:
NO PHONE OR "INTERENT"
Ah, but there's a pay phone and WiFi at the local library.
Looks like those books will come in handy after all? Or maybe part of our free rent would involve providing the entertainment… Safe to say, we don’t want to find out.
