Portions of the sidewalk on East 2nd Avenue in Mount Pleasant are closed for construction...like, really closed.
A Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»local documented approximately 14 different signs and barriers set up along a few blocks stretch to stop pedestrians and cyclists from using the path.
One sign also prohibits pedestrians from walking in the adjoining bike lane.
"Hey can someone tell me one way or the other if this sidewalk is closed?" they teased in the video's caption, tagging the City of Vancouver.
The replies jump on the opportunity to tease the City, with one person saying, "IDK, could be more closed." Another admits that the city may have needed to increase the number of signs because "the good citizens of Mt Pleasant–including yours truly–were like, 'Psssh, this seems more like a suggestion to me.'"
V.I.A. reached out to the City of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»to confirm if that was the case. A spokesperson explained that they issued a sidewalk closure permit to the developer at the 1888 Scotia Street site and while the sidewalk "currently exceeds the minimum number of signs and barriers required...permit holders have a duty to ensure the site is safe and may employ additional tactics to meet that need including signage."
Large portions of East 2nd Avenue between Clark Drive and Scotia Street are under construction by various developers, which is affecting sidewalks.
