Changes coming to traffic flow around Vancouver's Canada Place

People going to the popular tourist site and cruise ship port will have to follow the new road rules

With another busy year expected at Vancouver's cruise ship terminal at Canada Place, the city has announced a change to the traffic flow near the iconic tourist site.

The city is launching a pilot program, temporarily changing part of Canada Place (the roadway near the structure) into a one-way road.

"The city is testing one-way vehicle circulation on Canada Place between Howe and Burrard streets from mid-April to December 2025," the City says in a press release.

The change precedes peak tourist season in Vancouver. It's estimated 1.2 million passengers will pass through the area as the city welcomes 300 cruise ships, according to the press release.

The goal of the pilot program is to reduce pedestrian-vehicle conflicts in the area and improve vehicle circulation.

Traffic will be allowed to travel east to west on Canada Place during the pilot.

Motorists will enter the new one-way zone via Howe Street, exiting at Burrard or Thurlow Street.

Canada Place (the roadway) is only two blocks long. The western block, between Burrard and Thurlow, will remain two-way.

If the results of the pilot program are favourable, the City says it may make that stretch of Canada Place permenantly one-way.
