B.C.’s south coast got hit with a "vigorous" system on Tuesday bringing wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour.
Environment Canada issued the wind warning just before 9:30 p.m. calling for powerful winds that could cause damage across the western parts of Metro Vancouver.
On Wednesday, the maximum wind gusts were tallied and Vancouver’s Jericho Beach recorded the strongest winds at 90 km/h.
Vancouver International Airport in Richmond clocked winds of 81 km/h.
Over in the Strait of Georgia at Entrance Island, located off Gabriola Island, maximum wind speeds reached 80 km/h.
BC Ferries' Tsawwassen terminal and Point Atkinson Lighthouse in West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»recorded 78 km/h winds.
Environment Canada clocked 74 km/h winds at the Alex Fraser Bridge in Delta.
On Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Island, Trial Island had 67 km/h winds while Gonzales Beach reached 69 km/h. Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast had 52 km/h winds.
Environment Canada also warned of heavy rain: West Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»received 52 mm on Tuesday; Vancouver Harbour received 40 mm; and UBC Research Forestry in Maple Ridge had the most rain at 55 mm.
The quick burst of strong winds died down overnight and finished by early morning.
On Tuesday night, more than 30,000 BC Hydro customers were without power. As of Wednesday morning, only 250 people in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»were without power, 251 in Burnaby, 259 at UBC, and more than 1,000 people on Bowen Island.
