A powerful wind storm in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»left thousands of locals without power overnight on Tuesday, May 21.
Environment Canada issued a wind warning for the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»region on Tuesday evening as a storm brought heavy rain, wind, lightning, and hail through the night.
Power was restored to the majority of BC Hydro customers by 9 a.m. on Wednesday but hundreds of people remain in the dark following the inclement weather.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»Fire Rescue Services reported an increase in calls due to the high winds. From 9 p.m. until midnight, fire crews responded to 50 calls about 11 electrical wires down, eight trees down, and three electrical surges or outages.

Vancouverite Ryan Voutilainen shared a video of strong winds gusting up to 80 km/h through the trees and noted that he was seeing "lots of power flashes" and hearing trees break.
"Making sure I am parked in a safe spot to avoid getting hit," he said.
Sharon Paterson also shared a video of the windstorm from her balcony in the city.
