One of the North Shore’s most hyped hikes reached new heights this week, as one of South Korea’s biggest celebrities graced the trail.

Jennie Kim, also known as Jennie Ruby Jane or simply Jennie, was spotted Wednesday on the Whyte Lake hike in West Vancouver.

A photo of her in the trailhead parking lot has been shared widely on social media, along with Tik Tok videos showing her walking the hike to where the trail reaches a dock on the bank of Whyte Lake.

She was among a group of primarily Los Angeles-based models and artists who were in 麻豆传媒映画for the launch of sneaker collaboration between Reebok and Friends with Animals. The latter brand is the creation of Vancouver-born designer and model, Tavia Bonetti, who was also on the hike.

Bonetti and Kim are known to be friends, with Bonetti posting pictures of them together previously to her Instagram stories.

Others posting pictures of the Wednesday hike to their Instagram accounts include photographer Lauren Leekley, Newfoundland-raised musician Drew MacDonald a.k.a. Drumaq and Zuri Marley, daughter of Ziggy Marley and granddaughter of Bob Marley.

Fan accounts of Kim also placed her at English Bay beach in Vancouver.

Kim skyrocketed to stardom as a member of the K-pop girl group Blackpink, following its meteoric rise after debuting in 2016.

Kim’s celebrity continued to grow outside of the musical act, gaining attention in world of high-fashion, and modelling for the likes of Calvin Klein and French luxury brand Boucheron Paris.

Kim made her first appearance at the Met Gala in 2023, and appeared again on the red-carpet event in 2024.

The South Korean celebrity made her acting debut in 2023 on the HBO series The Idol, created by Canadian pop star The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The provocative show was the subject of much controversy, and was cancelled after its first season.

Kim has 85.3 million followers on Instagram.
