A fixture along West Broadway in the shadow of City Hall, veteran Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»restaurant has just revealed it will close down this month after 52 years.
"It has been a wonderful journey, but after 52 years Martini’s Restaurant will have its last day of service December 22, 2022," the restaurant shared on social media.
"Our heartfelt thanks to all our guests, past and present, for your patronage. It has truly been an honour to welcome you over the years. We are thankful for the staff that helped create an environment known for being a comfortable and welcoming space- a place to enjoy great food and drinks with family and friends," continues Martini's closing announcement.
Opened in 1970, the restaurant has been a staple for many during its long tenure.
"When we first opened our doors in 1970, we were a small neighbourhood eatery," describes Martini's on its website. "Beer was only found in stubby bottles and the only flavourings for martinis were the olive and the onion. We have come a long way since liver and onions!"
The family-owned business is known for its martinis, of course, but also its signature pizzas on whole wheat crust.
"The worst news ever. A Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»institution!" laments one fan on Martini's farewell Instagram post.
"Thank you for taking care of us! From those late night eats after clubbing in the 90s, to bringing my kid in and your amazing staff recognizing his voice when he’d place a delivery order. Thank you for being our home away from home," shares another longtime customer.
Martini's Restaurant says it is looking forward to filling their last days with such stories: "Everyone who has entered Martini’s has fond memories and stories to tell- we welcome these as we complete our final days of service. It has been a remarkable run, and we are looking forward to the next phase of our journey."
