It's been a tumultuous four years for restaurant in Kitsilano.

The Japanese restaurant began as an omakase sushi bar in late 2017, but during the pandemic shifted to offer comfort eats for take-out, like curry rice, donburi, seasoned fries, and their new signature item, a creation called the "Japanese Wrap." At that point, Super Hiro's stopped offering raw fish or sushi of any kind.

Now Super Hiro's owner, , has opted to bring the restaurant's run to an end. Watanabe trained at Vancouver's legendary Tojo's; he is also Chef Tojo's relative.

"Thank you very much everyone who’s supported us and thank you very much to all our regular customers who’s supported us in any situation for the last four years," shared Super Hiro's in a heartfelt closing message shared to social media this week.

In the same farewell notice, however, Super Hiro's notes that while the restaurant is shutting its doors at 2585 West Broadway soon Watanabe plans to carry on with the brand, just in a different format. "Our business will change to online form in the near future. We keep moving forward and never stop!"

Super Hiro's last day as a brick-and-mortar spot will be March 25.
