A Korean specialty is about to get a serious spotlight thanks to a new Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»restaurant getting ready to open its doors.
, which is setting up shop at 1130 Mainland in Yaletown, is going to be all about pajeon, or savoury Korean pancakes. The new venture will also specialize in pours of makgeolli, which is Korean rice wine.
The forthcoming restaurant replaces , a Korean-fusion taco restaurant.
Pajeon, Korean pancakes, feature green onions prominently, but unlike Chinese scallion pancakes, they are made with a batter, not a dough. The batter often includes other meats, veggies, or kimchi, before it is fried to a golden crisp and served with dipping sauce.
"Mapo" is both the name of a popular tofu dish as well as one of the 25 districts of Seoul, South Korea.
No other information about Mapo Pancake House is available just yet, but the restaurant has been teasing taste buds via its Instagram account . The restaurant should be opening up this spring.
