Port Moody’s is extending its opening hours Thursdays through Saturdays.
But don’t expect to be able to gorge on its doughy confections.
Instead, the popular pit stop for tasty treats like its triple chocolate old fashioned and cinnamon twists is transforming into a cocktail lounge for weekend libations into the late night.
Sweet Talk co-founder Scott McTavish said the cocktail concept had always been on his radar, along with business partner Juan Perello, with the lounge atmosphere of its decor that features warm wood and blue padded chairs and banquettes. But it’s finally becoming reality now that the restaurateurs have secured a liquor licence for the donut shop next to Taps and Tacos on Moody Street.
McTavish said the cocktail lounge will attract different customers than those seeking donuts or breakfast sandwiches as well as provide new revenue opportunities.
Perello, who’s been shaking and stirring up his cocktail game at various Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»bars including The Keefer Bar in Chinatown, said the idea is to bring the lounge experience from the big city to Port Moody.
“It’s all about comfort and nostalgia,” he said of the concept. “The communal feel is inviting in the evening.”
But don’t expect to chase your Nitro Espresso Martini with a Boston cream.
Perello said the last donut is sold at 4:30 p.m., though a selection of ingredients from their donut concoctions have found their way into the adult beverages.
Some of the house cocktails include:
- Call Me Old Fashioned, comprised of Bearface Canadian whisky, Flor de Cana 12 yr. Rum, pandan, cascara gomme and cocoa bitters
- Made in the Shade, with Northern Keep vodka, Yuzu sake, cranberry and orange sherbet, lime and egg white
- You’ve Got Jets, a bubbly, carbonated cocktail made with Forty Creek Copper Bold whisky, lemon verbena cordial, shiso, and absinthe
- Old Cuban made of Flor de Cana 5 yr. Rum, lime, cane sugar, mint, sparkling wine and Angostura bitters
There’s also beer, cider and wines available, along with a pair of non-alcoholic cocktails as well as a food menu of snacks like warm Casetlvetrano olives, cheesy garlic bread, blistered Shishito peppers and cheese burger tartare.
“We’re quite excited,” said Perello. “It’s a something-for-everyone kind of vibe.”
The Sweet Talk cocktail lounge opens at 6:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and runs until late night. It's located at 87 Moody St.
