Promising "unpretentious cocktail excellence" and decor inspired by the South Seas, a new "hidden" bar concept called will open for business in Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»on March 31.
The Stock Room features no exterior signage and is located behind the new permanent location of Hundy, a burger joint, in Yaletown, at 1144 Homer St.
Hundy, which also just opened, has set up shop here in a portion of the former Donnelly Group's ex-New Oxford pub space; Hundy's founder, Mike Robbins, happens to be the chef collaborating on food ops for Donnelly - except Donnelly itself has been rebranded as Freehouse Collective.
The Stock Room is essentially the final puzzle piece for what had been the sprawling New Oxford and Tavern at New Oxford (on the backside, fronting Hamilton Street). Freehouse will open a new concept called at that venue.
For this "speakeasy"-styled cocktail destination, Freehouse says The Stock Room boasts an intimate bar with a curated by Bar & Beverage director Trevor Kallies. "Robust punches and fruit-forward original creations are showcased alongside classic cocktails and a thoughtful selection of natural wines and local beers," details a media release about the venture.
The whole "secret bar" vibe is echoed in the name, which is meant to evoke being tucked away enjoying a furtive drink in a space that seems at first glance like nothing more than a storage area.
While The Stock Room doesn't serve food, being the close companion to Hundy means bar-goers who are perched on barstools, playing a game of pool, or tucked into booths with friends, can order up a la carte burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and fries from the casual neighbouring operation through the bar, or purchase snacks brought in from their friends at Vancouver's Lucky's Exotic Bodega.
The Stock Room will be open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Friday to Sunday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
