A few days ago I was told the story that the guy who owned the Railway Club with his family from 1981 until 2008 had taken the money he made off the sale of it and used it to chase his passion for beer, opening a brewery. If there's one thing I love it's good people doing good things in and for this city, and I also love when people chase their passions. I especially love when all of those things together to make great stories, like the name behind . You know, the company came to be because of the sale of the Railway Club. That's pretty great.
Yesterday I bought a 4 pack of the Red Ale which is a shockingly high 6.4%, but goes down like a regular ale somehow. I'm looking forward to checking out their other offerings soon.
If you don't want to buy Off the Rail in cans you can head to their brewery at 1351 Adanac (one block away from Bomber Brewing) and have some drinks in their tasting room, or get your growler filled and take it home with you. They've got 8-10 beers on tap at all times there.
I got the brewery's founder Steve Forsyth on the phone today and asked him what's happening next. He tells me they've got a new ESB coming as well as a "Raj Mahal" India ale that'll have a hint of lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf. Look for those soon.
