A cherished neighbourhood watering hole in Kitsilano, just blocks from Jericho beach, is packing it in after over 30 years.
(3681 W 4th Ave) is set to close permanently on April 30, 2022.
The owners shared a sentimental farewell note on social media April 13: "We've survived a pandemic, fire, and a flood or two, but the time has now come for us to wander off into the sunset and take care of our old bones," begins the heartfelt message.
"It was a very difficult decision to leave the community we love so much, but there never is a good time," remarked The Cove's owners. "We have been so lucky to have had such a supportive community that has helped us grow and thrive over these last 30+ years."
The Cove was a real local spot for people who live and play in Kits. "This location is popular with sports crowds and people looking for a good, casual bite to eat in the neighbourhood," pointed out a blog post a couple of years ago.
"The Cove Pub is part of the scenery in Kitsilano," touts The Cove's website. "Just ask any one of our regular customers who have been visiting our establishment for its duration."
Fans of The Cove Pub took the closing news hard, expressing deep sadness - mixed with much gratitude.
"The food was always far and above pub fare. The homemade soups were stellar. The menu was always diverse. The wings! Some of the best in Vancouver," pointed out one Cove fan on Facebook.
There's just a little time left to say farewell to The Cove and try their poutine made with Montreal cheese curds, signature tailgate chicken wings, burgers, bowls, and mains - and their weekend brunch - before closing day.
