A few weeks back you heard from Bob about his experience using SPUD for a family of 3 and , and now I'm here to show you my SPUD adventure as a single professional.
Today I'm going to share some of my favourite finds on the website and in the next post you'll see some of the dishes that I made out of the tasty groceries... Because and how it arrives, I'm just going to make you VERY hungry.
First up, my first delivery. I was pretty excited. I got a mix of staples that I needed and things that sounded really good.
One of the first sections of the website that I went to was the dairy/cheese one. There are 3 things in the photo above that I could live off of: Bread, Cheese and Raspberries, but I want to talk about the cheese.
My first discovery after I started looking around was that there were so many local cheeses that sounded too delicious not to try out.
First was the in Armstrong, BC - it's made with Amber Ale...how could I NOT order that? I had big plans for it too...my signature Mac'N'Cheese...you'll see that in the next post.
Second was the - this was so good...I definitely ate a lot of it with the baguettes that first week, along with:
the . And on sandwiches. Which you might learn is my obsession.
In another order I got the , because, you know, I ate all of that cheese from the first order.
Four out of five of the cheeses are from BC, and the old cheddar came from Quebec. It was a pretty great feeling to have such delicious food from our own backyard.
The SPUD website has a pretty great "Ready To Eat" section, in which I found the take-home Vij's frozen meals. Â I tried the and it was great (you just boil it in the bag!)...they also have a that also looks delightful. I'm excited to have these in my freezer for a really quick and easy, not to mention delicious meal.
Now this is tied for my favourite discovery of the website, because it's totally different, yet equally awesome.
Yes. That's sausage made with beer.Â
Right now I'm only going to show you the two kinds that I tried (in two different orders). (!)
First was the Butter Chicken Sausage. Yah, I know right?
and THEN I got the Smoked Duck Sausage...and I even went so far as to go get the beer to pair it with the meal I made.
Oh and did I mention they're a local company too?!
Wait until you see the photos, you'll drool. I'm totally not eating leftovers right now...nom nom nom.
And finally, this is probably the coolest thing I found.
In the section of the website, another local company called "" makes ORGANIC, Ready-to-Bake Croissants...including Chocolate Croissants...which I instantly added to my shopping cart.
Essentially all you have to do is put a frozen croissant (not pictured) out to defrost overnight (covered) and in the morning you pop it in the oven for 15minutes, and then you have a warm, fresh, amazing croissant. It's addictive.
So ya! Those are my four favourite discoveries of the , all of which are great for a person living on their own (so much comes frozen and is really easy to make).
