Closing time is on the horizon for the , the restaurant and popular watering hole on the ground floor of the longstanding downtown 鶹ýӳhotel of the same name.
The restaurant shared the news on its social media, prefacing operators were making the announcement "with a heavy heart."
No reason for the impending closure was given, though operators go on to offer heartfelt thanks to the St Regis Bar & Grill's loyal customers and staff.
"We'll forever cherish the memories made here," they add.
However, a statement from ownership provided to V.I.A. sheds more light on what prompted the closure and what is in store for the space.
"This closure reflects the changes which have taken place in the downtown 鶹ýӳwith increased hybrid work schedules and decreased office populations," the St. Regis ownership explains.
For much of its tenure, the St. Regis Bar & Grill was considered a local favourite "for office lunches, game nights, and special events."
The hotel itself has been on the site since 1913. In the 1940s, the venue was known as the Sportsman's Hotel and, fittingly, was a draw for many famous local and visiting athletes.
Now, a new chapter is ahead for the food and drink spot at 608 Dunsmuir St.
"Over the next months, ownership will reimagine the space and reopen it with a new concept aligned with the present and future of 鶹ýӳdining, entertainment, and hospitality. This process will not affect hotel services, specifically the famous complimentary breakfast service which is offered to all St. Regis Hotel guests. A new room service offering is also in development," shares the venue in its statement.
In 2023, local French-style bakery-café Beaucoup opened its second 鶹ýӳlocation inside the St. Regis Hotel, in a space that was previously a Starbucks.
The St. Regis Bar & Grill's last day of business will be Saturday, May 3, 2025.
