New Korean seafood restaurant enlivens dining scene in Coquitlam

And, this month, a new Korean seafood restaurant joined the foodie scene.

Bambada opened at in the building that was formerly Osamu Sushi, which shut down in March 2019.

According to the the new eatery is a "modern Korean restaurant" offering "high end seafood."

Among the specialties is the Bambada signature steamed seafood box that ranges in size from the small box ($48) to a large box ($135) and comes with a variety of seafood and vegetables.

Bambada owner Daisy Kang told the Tri-City News that she and her husband, Jin Kim, a chef for more than 10 years, own the business.

Restaurant owners originally from Korea

Kim originally owned a restaurant in Korea and is now in Coquitlam, offering up a range of specialty seafood dishes.

Kang said the seafood box is a colourful and tasty variety of steamed shellfish, including clams, mussels, prawns, oysters and abalone.

"We are aiming to serve the Korean, Chinese and Asian people. That’s why we choose Coquitlam," said Kang, who lives in Langley.

Bambada joins a number of well regarded Korean restaurants that have opened up in recent years in south west Coquitlam, including along North Road.

The name "Bambada" is difficult to translate because it is more of a "feeling rather than just a word," according to the website.

Directly translated Bambada means Night Sea.

"But there is a feeling associated with this word, it is when the sea goes calm after sunset and it is this feeling of tranquility that imbues the word Bambada," the website states.
