Watch: New self-serve 鶹ýӳhot pot spot specializes in Thai flavours, spicy broth

The hot pot craze is getting spicier in Vancouver

The hot pot (or hotpot) craze is stronger than ever, and in the case of one of Vancouver's newest spots, it's spicier than ever.

Super Thai Hotpot has entered the chat. Located at 3327 Kingsway in Renfrew-Collingwood, the brand-new restaurant boasts a sleek, modern interior with golden bowls for loading with guests' desired ingredients and the promise of spicy broth.

The signature Super Thai (which uses Hot Pot and Hotpot interchangeably) broth is Tom Yum, the bright, lemongrass-infused Thai soup base. The broth is not particularly hot, but guests can use condiments from the self-serve sauce bar to add head by way of things like chili oil or chopped peppers. 

The brand is also known for its Mala Tang. Mala Tang is a style of hot pot that is popular in China's Sichuan province and is known for being numbingly hot. 

The business, which has over 200 locations worldwide, says it "combines the bold flavours of traditional Thai cuisine with the intense heat of Mala spices, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for hot pot lovers."

Customers serve themselves and the final assembled bowl is priced by weight before it is taken to the kitchen and cooked in the broth of choice. 

Ingredients include an array of vegetables, noodles, and proteins, including items like duck breast, several kinds of fish balls, deep-fried eggs, boiled quail eggs, and an extensive array of seafood options, including fish, shellfish, and even frogs. 

Promos include free iced tea during daytime hours and complimentary soft-serve ice cream cones all day with orders.

Super Thai opened in early February. The restaurant's hours are 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
