'We want to express our deepest gratitude': Local restaurant chain closing downtown Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­location

Downtown Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­is losing Neptune Chinese Kitchen as the restaurant group is closing its Alberni Street location on Dec. 29.

After six years in the city's core, a local Chinese restaurant chain is closing up shop.

is closing its 1136 Alberni St location as of Dec. 29, according to a poster on the restaurant's door.

"With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that Neptune Chinese Kitchen Alberni will be closing its doors," states the business's note. "We want to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the years."

Neptune Restaurant Group started in 1997 with a seafood restaurant. Since then they've opened more than a dozen different locations across the Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­region. Often locations specialize in something, like wontons, noodles, or seafood. The Chinese Kitchen (of which there still is one at UBC) of dishes, from dim sum to congee and hot pots.

The restaurant group has several other locations across Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­including a pair of wonton noodle places in Richmond, three Neptune Seafood Restaurants, and the Neptune Barbecue House on Granville Street. A Neptune on Davie Street was replaced by Momo Factory a year ago.

"We truly appreciate the memories we've shared and the relationships we've built throughout the years," states the business.

However, those seeking somewhere to dine right where Neptune is will have an exciting new option in 2024. 

This October, a for the location on the ground floor of the Carmana Hotel & Suites, which will house the first Canadian location of Taiwanese dim sum sensation Din Tai Fung (its formal address will be 1132 Alberni St). Din Tai Fung is expected to open sometime next year.
