Latin grocer taking over food co-op shop on Commercial Drive

It's store number three for the four women who founded this popular Latin American grocery store

A local Latin grocery store is expanding its Metro Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­empire with the launch of its third location.

, which began in 2020 with a storefront in the West End's Davie Village, is a Vancouver-based and female-founded business that sought to fill a gap in the city's marketplace by offering a one-stop-shop for Latin American goods and groceries.

The grocer next turned its attention to North Burnaby, in the neighbouring municipality earlier this year.

Now, Mi Tierra Latina will expand once more, opening its third shop, this time on the east side of Vancouver. The Latin American grocer has moved in at 1034 Commercial Drive, in the former home of the . The popular community store closed its doors on May 15. 

"You can't buy happiness, but you can always buy local," touted the temporary signage earlier this summer as Mi Tierra renovated the former Co-op space. 

Opening day for Mi Tierra's third location has been set for Sat. Aug. 20.

"Friends, it fills us with happiness to share with you this special date and so much awaited, our third location is here. We hope you can come to party with us and enjoy this great event," reads the shop's announcement (in translation) .

The grocery store project "was born with the intention of reconnecting Latinos with their roots," notes Mi Tierra on its location announcement on its third Instagram account (each store has its own). 

"Mi Tierra Latina offers all the necessary ingredients you need for an authentic Latin American fiesta. From special spices to freshly ground Colombian coffee beans, tens of different sauces ranging in spice and more," describes the business on its website.

Mi Tierra's stores are organized by country and feature new items each week from the region. Staff are on hand to help shoppers find what they are looking for, whether it be everything you need to have an empanada night at home to special Peruvian cola and chips or special sauces or seasonings from Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and more.
