Welcome to , a unique project inspired by and . I've moved my family into this community with my mission being to showcase the myriad of things that make it awesome by bringing you a weekly scoop! |
It's now been two months since we moved into The Village on False Creek and aside from generally loving life there I've also been doing a whole lot of research on our new neighbourhood during that time. Last week I went on a tour of Habitat Island with one of the landscape architects (Margot Long) from who was partly responsible for designing it as well as all of the other public/parks areas and plant life throughout the Village. I'll be doing an entire post about it but today I wanted to share one of the many things I learned on our tour: of the 246 trees and 20,828 shrubs that were planted in Southeast False Creek when PWL designed the public space, about 20 of them are Saskatoon berry trees! And what I learned this past weekend, while out on a walk with my son, is that they actually yield berries, and that a great portion of them are ripe and ready to eat!
If you're in the neighbourhood, most of the Saskatoon berry trees are actually right along the seawall along Hinge Park and adjacent to Habitat Island. Grab a handful while you're walking or cycling by!
Learn more at and stay tuned each week as I expose other unique qualities of our new community.
