For nearly a decade, has been a staple café in the Fraser Valley, and now the family-owned business has revealed plans to add a second location in nearby Langley.
Oldhand launched in 2015 at its original Abbotsford location before making the move about a year later to its current charming and rustic downtown spot on Pauline.
Run by Kristina and Johannes van Bommel van Vloten, the couple - both of whom were born and raised in Abbotsford - became "old hands" at making excellent coffee and managing cafés through their years of experience in the industry in Victoria and Vancouver.
"We are so excited to share with you that we just signed a lease for a second location in Langley, with plans to open in fall 2024!" the Oldhand owners on social media.
The couple shared that they had "been looking for another location for many years now" but "nothing has felt quite right" until they landed on the space they've taken on.
The new Oldhand will be moving in on the same stretch of Fraser Highway in downtown Langley that has seen tremendous revitalization in recent years. Photos shared by the business show the new Oldhand will be moving into the space that was The Passionate Home, a home goods store at 20528 Fraser Hwy.
The van Bommel van Vlotens point out that they will be neighbours with the new-ish Steven's bar/restaurant as well as an incoming New York-style pizzeria replacing the former Mcburney's café. The area is also home to the Langley outpost of Vancouver's Pie Hole bakeshop, and, as the Oldhand team notes, is an area that "has all the thrifting you could dream of outside of Abbotsford."
"Best of all, there is a lot of parking nearby! And, there is a large public courtyard immediately outside the shop, as well the lovely Douglas Park," they add.
Though this will be Oldhand's second shop, it's not entirely the first additional venture for the family, who previously were partners in the short-lived brunch-focused Little Brother on Essendene (now home to BRGR BRGR).
No other details about Oldhand's new Langley coffee shop have been shared yet; the owners say they have just gotten the keys and are getting started on renovations.
