It's been a rough road for in Squamish. The restaurant, situated at the picturesque Sunwolf Resort in Brackendale, has revealed they are being forced to shut down for repairs, just weeks after their long-awaited re-opening.
"Friends, we are sad to report that we will need to shut Fergie’s Cafe for two months to undergo preventative maintenance," shared Fergie's co-owners Jake and Jess Freese on the restaurant's social media.
The Freeses explain: "A beverage line leak has been identified in our kitchen floor and we simply cannot risk putting off repairs because of the long-term damage it could cause."
The couple says that they have determined, with the help of consultants, that the only thing they can do is to rip up the entire floor in order to protect themselves against potential future problems.
Fergie's plans to shut down as of Jan. 8, and they anticipate opening in March.
On April 3, 2018, the fate of was forever changed. A devastating fire ripped through the cherished restaurant, leaving not much besides ashes.
However, the Fergie's Cafe story wasn't about to come to an end: In October 2018, construction began on a rebuild that would find the space re-imagined in the context of its time.
It took nearly a year for Fergie's to be able to welcome patrons to their space, when just this past September they launched an outdoor soft open "lawn service" option while the finishing touches were completed on the restaurant itself.
In mid-November 2019, Fergie's was finally able to throw open their doors to customers in their beautiful rebuilt restaurant.
“After so many delays to our reopening and the warm welcome we received from the community, it’s absolutely heartbreaking to have to temporarily shut the restaurant again," say the Freeses.
The last day Fergie’s Cafe will be open is Tue., Jan. 7. Until then, they are open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fergie's is located at 70002 Squamish Valley Road in Squamish.
